Zoom is the latest tech company to open a satellite office in the Seattle region, planting a flag nearby rivals Microsoft and Google.

Zoom inked a lease for 19,085 square feet of space at the Symetra Center, a 25-story building in Bellevue, Wash., according to a new report from real estate firm Broderick Group.

We reached out to Zoom for details about the new office, and we’ll update our story if we hear back.

Zoom has four open positions in Seattle, according to LinkedIn. It joins more than 100 other tech companies that have engineering outposts in the Seattle area, tapping into the region’s robust tech talent pool.

The Puget Sound Business Journal reported about Zoom’s new office on Monday, citing city permit records.

Zoom competes directly with Microsoft, headquartered just down the road from Zoom’s new Bellevue office, and Google, which has a large presence in the Seattle area.

Longtime Microsoft leader Michelle Chang joined Zoom in October as its new CFO.

Zoom, based in San Jose, Calif., is primarily known for its videoconferencing platform which gained popularity in the pandemic. But the company has diversified its product offerings to compete more broadly with companies like Microsoft and Google.

The company recently launched a new workplace productivity assistant called AI Companion 2.0 and describes itself as an “AI-first work platform for human connection.”

Zoom, which launched in 2011 and went public in 2019, reported revenue of $1.1 billion in the third quarter, up 3.6% year-over-year. Earnings per share rose to $0.66 from $0.45 in the year-ago period.

The company’s stock is up more than 20% in the past 12 months. Zoom has around 192,400 enterprise customers.

Zoom last year began asking employees back to the office two days a week.

OpenAI also recently opened an office in Bellevue. Amazon is growing a large footprint in Bellevue, while Snowflake, ByteDance, and Pokémon are also expanding.
