Seattle-based biotech startup ZipBio announced its official launch on Thursday and revealed $4 million in a seed funding round led by NFX.

Founded last year, ZipBio is developing a platform that “compresses complex biological structures into smaller, more efficient de novo-designed proteins that retain full functionality, optimizing delivery and therapeutic effectiveness,” according to the company.

ZipBio uses generative AI “to revolutionize the development of new therapeutics, addressing some of the most pressing unmet needs in medicine,” according to its website. “By creating de novo genes and proteins, we distill multiple complex functions into compact, highly effective therapeutic molecules.”

ZipBio is led by CEO and co-founder Roee Farber, former head of product at Lokavant. Other co-founders include Ariel J. Ben-Sasson; Ori Hassin; and Ori Zelichov.

ZipBio has offices in Seattle and Tel Aviv, Israel.

Other backers in the funding round include Israel-based firm MoreVC.
